Types of Furnaces
Furnaces come in multiple types and sizes so you will need to make a number of decisions when choosing which system to have installed. First, you must decide what fuel source you want to use. There are three options – gas, oil and electricity. In most cases, the decision will depend on what is available in your area and the average cost of each option.
Natural gas is often the least expensive option, but is not available everywhere. If natural gas is not available, electric furnaces can also reach very high efficiency ratings, but you should research your local electricity rates before choosing an electric furnace.
The next thing to consider is the overall efficiency rating of your furnace. Furnaces are all given an AFUE (annual fuel utilization efficiency) rating. This number represents how much of the fuel is actually converted into heat. All modern furnaces have a minimum AFUE of 80%, but top end models have AFUE ratings of as much as 97%. The cost of a new furnace will scale to match the AFUE rating, so if you are on a budget, you may want a slightly less efficient model to offset initial investment. Talk with our technicians to determine which option is most beneficial for you and your budget.
A proper heat load calculation should also be performed in advance to ensure the furnace installed is the right size for your home. Too large and it will cycle on and off frequently, using more energy and failing to heat your home evenly. Too small and it simply won’t produce enough heat. Our technicians can make these calculations for you as well.
Furnace Installation Services
Once you have selected a new furnace for your home, the next step is installation. When having a furnace installed, it is also important to have your ductwork and chimney flue inspected. Newer furnaces require highly efficient chimneys to avoid corrosion and condensation. In many homes, a new flue liner is needed to match the newer furnace. Ductwork may also be out of date if you have not had it upgraded in some years.
After we’ve verified that your chimney and ductwork are in good shape, we’ll install your new furnace. Our technicians have years of experience working with all types of furnaces so you can be confident that we’ll have your installed properly and quickly, with minimal disruption to your home and your daily routine.
